Yoga Therapy & Classes which take a whole person approach;
drawing on the many tools of yoga to create a personalised practice
that is as individual as you are.
What is Yoga Therapy?
Yoga Therapy is an individualised and holistic approach to yoga. It can support overall wellbeing by applying specific yoga tools. It can be used to help relieve symptoms from a particular physical or emotional condition, such as back pain, stress, anxiety, chronic fatigue, MS, or side effects from cancer treatments. It can help you reconnect with what makes you happy, and live a more fulfilled life.
Working in this one-to-one setting provides a safe space to express your concerns and needs, so that an appropriate personal practice can be developed and adapted to suit you.
What Happens at an Appointment?
Yoga Therapy appointments can take place in-person or on-line via zoom, or be a mixture of both.
Meeting in-person for the first session is preferred, and usually takes a little longer to allow for initial assessments and discussion. Follow-up appointments are an hour long.
At each appointment you will be given a personalised yoga practice, which may include yoga postures, specific movements, breathing practices, relaxation, meditation, or other traditional yoga practices. It will be adapted and personalised specifically for you. A copy of your practice is then provided to enable you to continue at home.
There is no specific format for appointments. You may wish to come regularly on a weekly or monthly basis, or can be ad hoc depending on how you are progressing, and to work around your health, hospital appointments, and preferences. Some people may just want a few appointments, and then want to join a group class. It is completely up to you.
Classes & Courses
I offer a variety of yoga classes in different settings.
This includes general group classes, seated classes for MS, and free zoom classes for those with or recovering from cancer.
From time to time I offer specialist classes or workshops around specific themes or practices, as well as a six week meditation course for those wanting to learn more about meditation to develop a regular practice.
Training for Yoga Teachers
As a yoga teacher, training and learning never stops. For those of curious about working more therapeutically, you may wish to train as a yoga therapist.
Real Yoga offer a Post Graduate Professional Yoga Therapy training, which is approved by, and exceeds the standards set by the British Council for Yoga Therapy. You can find out more at https://realyoga.co.uk
If you would like to work more specifically with those with or recovering from cancer, Jackie works alongside co-trainer Sue Skelton to offer a 2 day CPD for yoga teachers and yoga therapists.
Jackie
Whatever else is going on my life, yoga has been my constant. I trained as a yoga teacher over twenty years ago, and my fascination with the therapeutic benefits of yoga led me to train as a yoga therapist. I love my job as a yoga teacher and yoga therapist. It’s the most varied and rewarding job I have ever had – and the best part is, I never stop growing and learning and practicing.
Whole Yoga Wellness
I bring all my training and personal experience of traditional and modern yoga practices together in Whole Yoga Wellness. We are all individuals, and the yoga therapy approach recognises this. Whole Yoga Wellness takes an holistic approach to support your health priorities.
There are many reasons we are drawn to yoga. We may enjoy the social or the coming together you find in a group class, or want to connect with people who share a similar experience, or there may be times in your life when you need a more personalised approach to your practice.
